Joint Focal Point (JCC), which oversees an international agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea, announced tonight that all cargo ships are suspended tomorrow, Wednesday.
According to the UN Secretariat in the JCC, “the delegations of Ukraine, Russia and Turkey agreed not to plan the movement of cargo ships for November 2 within the framework of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.”
This morning, three cargo ships entered the “humanitarian corridor”, which left Ukrainian ports, despite Russia’s temporary withdrawal from this agreement. The movement of ships “was approved by the delegations of Ukraine, Turkey and the UN,” the JCC said in a statement, adding that “the Russian delegation was informed” of this.
The Secretariat also reported that today, 1 November, Turkish and United Nations inspectors completed 36 ship inspections.
On Monday, Russia warned that it was “dangerous” to continue navigation along the corridor without its consent. Moscow, which claims the airstrip was used by the Ukrainian military to shell the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol Bay, is seeking “security guarantees” from Kyiv.
The Coordination Center assured tonight that UN Special Representative Amir Abdullah “is making every effort in close cooperation with Turkey” to return all parties to an agreement. Abdullah tweeted on Monday that “no civilian cargo ship” should be a military target or be taken hostage. “The horrors must pass,” he stressed, while about a dozen ships sailed from Ukrainian ports.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today held a telephone conversation on this issue with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, and “in the coming days” he is expected to have contacts with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
