Signs of a new Ukrainian counteroffensive in the east of the country / “The front line has advanced”

A Ukrainian counteroffensive is beginning to take shape on the eastern front, which remained static after the liberation of the Kharkiv-Izyum-Liman axis in early October, soldiers involved in that direction told AFP on Tuesday, confirming the statements of Ukrainian authorities, AFP reports.

“The trend is really good, from our side, the front line advanced (this week) quickly and well,” confirmed a special forces officer of the Ukrainian army with the code name “Iva”, who operates on this front from a position in the village of Zarisne.

“We are focusing on the Svatove-Kreminna road in order to cut the Russian supply line” to occupied Lysichanskul, the officer said on condition of anonymity.

The city of Svatove, occupied by Moscow since March 6, is one of the key logistics hubs of the Russian military in the occupied part of the Luhansk region.

Ukrainian forces are advancing from the south, including along an axis parallel to the Svatove-Kreminna road and the road through Nevsky.

“In the direction of Nevsky our army is advancing very well, in the direction of Kreminnaya it is more difficult due to daily shelling. For now, this sector is still for (Ukrainian) territorial defense, excellent for holding positions, but not calibrated for an offensive,” the officer continued.

“We will not talk about specific settlements and let the General Staff do it, but we can say that the Svatove-Kreminna highway is practically under the control of Ukrainian troops,” regional governor Serhii Gaidai said on Friday on state television.
