OUR China launched on Monday is the last of three cabins that will make up space station, which will be the second operating space station after the ISS of the American Space Agency (NASA).
The Mengtian unmanned spacecraft was launched by China’s most powerful Long March 5B rocket from the Wenchang Space Center in southern China.
In April 2021, China began building its space station with the launch of the Tianhe chamber, the main living space for astronauts.
In July of this year, Vedian was launched, where scientific experiments will be carried out. The 23-ton Mengtian is also a laboratory chamber.
The completion of China’s 10-year space station will be a major milestone for China’s space ambitions, as NASA’s ISS is likely to cease operations by the end of the decade.
During the existence of the station, China plans to conduct more than 1,000 scientific experiments.
International demand for experiments at the Chinese station will also increase if the ISS is decommissioned in the coming years. Since November 2000, at least 3,000 scientific experiments have been carried out on the ISS.
