On Saturday, Russia informed UN Secretary General António Guterres in a letter about the suspension of the agreement that allows the export of grain through Ukrainian ports, dpa reports, Agerpres reports.
Due to drone attacks on Russian ships in the Black Sea Protected Corridor, Russia “cannot guarantee the safety of civilian vessels sailing under the (Black Sea) initiative,” Russia’s UN Ambassador Vasyl Nebenzia wrote to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Because of the attacks, Moscow suspended the July agreement “indefinitely”, according to a letter from a Russian diplomat.
“Relevant instructions have been given to the representatives of Russia in the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul, who are responsible for the implementation of the initiative,” the letter says.
In addition, Russia has invited a meeting of the UN Security Council on this issue on Monday.
