Guido Crocetto, 59, is the new Minister of Defense in the government of Georgia Meloni in Italy.
Those who closely follow political events in Italy may remember him as deputy defense minister between 2008 and 2011, while Silvio Berlusconi was prime minister at the time.
Along the way, in 2012, Crochetto became one of the co-founders of the Italian Adelphia faction, which won the elections in September last year. It is noted that he was previously a member of Berlusconi’s Forza Italia.
However, subsequently the current HYTHA became involved in the Italian defense industry. Since 2014, Crochetto has headed the Italian AIAD (Aziende Italiane per l’Aerospazio, la Difesa e la Sicurezza) as an association of Italian manufacturers of defense equipment.
From the said post, which he held until recently, Crosetto in previous years “bumped” with the Americans, as well as with the Franco-German axis.
“In 2017, he accused (U.S.) Lockheed Martin of failing to deliver on promises made to Italian companies to cooperate on the F-35 co-production program, and in 2019, he claimed that Germany and France’s plans to single-handedly build a sixth-generation fighter were an insult. Italy,” writes Tom Kington in DefenseNews.
