Belarusian dictator Oleksandr Lukashenko has decided to announce a covert mobilization, writes Nasha Niva, one of the oldest newspapers in Belarus, citing several independent sources.
“Nasha Niva” writes that the mobilization will be carried out under the pretext of “checking” and that at the first stage it will not affect large cities, reservists will be mobilized from the countryside, but it is not yet known whether the number of people who will receive registration orders.
The publication also notes that Lukashenko decided not to publicly announce the mobilization due to the unpopularity of such an event in Belarus.
According to a major analysis conducted in August by the Center for European Political Analysis on the reasons why the Belarusian dictator did not send troops to Ukraine together with Russia, even if more than 30% of the population supports Russia in the conflict, only 3% of the country’s citizens support Minsk’s direct involvement in the war. .
Even the majority of Lukashenka’s supporters are against it.
What do Belarusian journalists say about the mobilization allegedly ordered by Lukashenko
“Nasha Niva” writes that “hidden mobilization” will also take place under the pretext of more frequent military fitness checks, but its purpose will become obvious only after the number of those mobilized becomes known.
“The recruitment of up to 2,000 people would mean additional personnel to perform limited combat tasks, artillery, for example,” Nasha Niva quoted an officer of the Armed Forces of Belarus as saying.
“We will have to sound the alarm if the number of mobilized people exceeds five thousand. This will mean creating an offensive group in a certain direction. If you cross 10,000, there will be more groups,” adds the officer.
The journalists of “Nasha Niva” write that they “know for sure” that so far only residents of small towns in Belarus have received summonses, while the first wave of “hidden mobilization” has not yet touched large cities.
They also refer to “informed sources” who say that the greatest emphasis is placed on those military specializations that are in short supply in the Russian army.
Belarusian commissariats check military documents
One of the sources said that cooks, drivers, technical and essential personnel for the rearguard areas have been called in so far, suggesting that the first wave of mobilization will be aimed at service personnel who can provide training of recruits and equipment. for them.
The propaganda press from Minsk is already writing that from October 12 to November 12, the military commissariats are “checking credentials.” [militare] to local administrative and executive bodies and enterprises”
“Previously, such inspections were not carried out at the same time,” Belarusian journalists emphasize.
Founded in 1906 and revived in 1991, Nasha Niva is one of the oldest daily newspapers in Belarus. Last July, authorities in Minsk blocked the newspaper’s website and searched its headquarters and the homes of several journalists.
A few days later, representatives of the newspaper announced that they were closing the publication due to pressure from the authorities and would resume publication outside Belarus.
In January of this year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Minsk recognized “Nasha Niva” as an “extremist organization.”
Lukashenko said that Ukraine is preparing to attack Belarus
On October 10, the Belarusian dictator announced that his country and Russia would deploy joint military forces in response to what he called escalating tensions on the country’s western borders.
He also stated that literally a day before the statement about a possible attack on Belarus from the territory of Ukraine, he was “warned”.
Later, he also spoke to his generals about possible attacks that Poland and Lithuania were planning to plan against Minsk.
“Poland is simply trembling, demanding that the Americans immediately bring and place nuclear weapons in Poland, including Germany’s nuclear arsenal,” he said, among other things, on October 10.
A day later, his defense minister warned Ukraine against provocations by Belarus, saying that “if we are attacked, if at least one meter of Belarusian land is the object of aggression, as the commander-in-chief said, the response will be immediate and severe.”
At the same time, he assured that the military forces deployed alongside Russia will have a purely defensive nature.
On the same day, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) stated in its assessment of the conflict in Ukraine that it was unlikely that Russian and/or Belarusian forces would attack Ukraine from Belarus.
“However, Belarus remains an accomplice in Russia’s war against Ukraine. “Belarus materially supports Russian offensive actions in Ukraine and provides Russian forces with positions from which they can attack Ukraine with high-precision munitions,” the ISW assessment said.
Researchers from the Center for European Policy Analysis also concluded in their analysis published in late August that Belarus is unlikely to enter the war, given the small size of the army that Lukashenko has at his disposal.
