A short clip posted online by a Ukrainian politician shows a Russian drone flailing after colliding with a Ukrainian drone in what appears to be the first footage of an “aerial duel” between UAVs in Ukrainian skies.

Interestingly, the drones involved are the same model of a Chinese-made commercial drone: the Mavic.

The footage also shows a plume of smoke, suggesting that at least one of the drones was raised to direct artillery fire. The remains of a large artillery installation are also visible, but it seems to have been previously destroyed.

The video shows how an enemy drone approaches the Ukrainian one and crashes into it, but the Russian UAV itself is destroyed, and fragments of the propeller fly away from it. The Ukrainian drone, on the other hand, remains in position and continues to monitor the situation.

Ukrainian politician Serhii Prytula posted the image on Twitter, saying that the Mavic drone was donated to a Ukrainian facility in Donetsk.

Prytula is known for its fundraising for the defense forces, including a campaign (successful in just 3 days) to buy three Bayraktar drones and one that gave the Ukrainian military access to a network of Finnish microsatellites. In total, Prytula collected tens of millions of dollars for the defense of Kyiv.
