The press service of Governor Oleksiy Teksler and the government headed by him announced the death “in the area of a special military operation in Donbas” of five people mobilized in the Chelyabinsk region. All of the deaths were reported in Korkino, a town with a population of nearly 35,000, according to the latest 2018 census.

“Unfortunately, the Military Commissariat confirmed the information about the death of five people from the Southern Urals who were summoned to the Korkin Military Commissariat. We grieve together with their families, we express our sincere and deep condolences,” the press release of the regional authorities said.

He stated that in addition to other payments provided for the death of soldiers at the front, the families of the deceased will receive one million rubles ($15.8 thousand) from the regional authorities.

As noted by the Russian-language BBC service, this is the first official confirmation by the Russian authorities regarding the death of a part of mobilized recruits at the front after September 21, when Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a decree on partial mobilization in Russia.

Reports of the deaths of recruits in Ukraine began to appear on Russian social networks and Telegram channels earlier this week, but the authorities refused to comment on them.

The first coffins of recruits mobilized by Putin have arrived in Russia

The well-known Russian pro-war blogger Anastasia Kaserova harshly criticized the situation in her Telegram channel.

“I must say – some commanders should be shot. Gentlemen, you have no moral right to wear all your titles and epaulettes. The result of mobilization is throwing untrained boys to the front. Zinc coffins are already arriving in Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg and Moscow. You told us that there would be instructions that in a week they would not be sent to the front. Did you lie again?”, she said.

“Find the courage to admit that this is a war. That we lack everything. That everything existed only on paper and on parade. Tell people the truth that we need help,” she urged.

She also wrote that “incredible drone experts are being sent [pe front] as infantrymen of motorized units, although a different military specialization is listed on the military record. I know of a case when a call was made from above to send a person as an instructor, but the local commander came and said: “I told you, you will go as an infantryman to a motorized rifle unit.”

Kaserova claims that some recruiters and commanders fear no one, not even Russian President Vladimir Putin.

New criticism of the military leadership in Moscow

On October 5, the head of the Kremlin personally announced that he had signed a decree to correct “mistakes” in the mobilization process after its conduct caused a national scandal in Russia.

“And in the top management, not everyone has the moral right to sort them out, because they, too, got confused. Only honesty can overcome these problems. By raising problems and solving them together. And breaking the shoulder straps on Red Square. Because people died because of you,” Anastasia Kaserova wrote.

She also noted that some military commanders responsible for the current situation should be sent to the front lines as mere soldiers.

Similar statements were made in early October by Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of Wagner’s mercenaries, in a sharp attack on Moscow’s military leadership.
