Pavlo Gubarev, the self-proclaimed “people’s governor” of Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine, says that Ukrainians are actually devil-possessed Russians who will be killed if they are not persuaded to side with the Russians.

“It is very important for us to create an image of the enemy based on reality: these are Russian people possessed by the devil. We come to convince them, not to kill them,” Gubarev claims.

“But if you don’t want us to change your mind, we’ll kill you. We will kill you as much as we want. We will kill a million or 5 million, we can exterminate you all until you realize that you are possessed by the devil and you need healing,” he claims.

The separatist leader then says that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi is one of the “obsessed principals” and that he is actually a “spawn of the devil.”

“He is Hitler 2.0 with his rabid nationalism, with that rabid Russophobia with images of women cutting throats, they are obsessed Satanists from the point of view of Christian thought. From a secular point of view, these are anti-liberal consumers, stupid people who cannot understand what is going on,” he says.

Who is Pavlo Gubarev, the self-proclaimed “people’s governor” of Donetsk

Pavlo Gubarev was known in Ukraine as a prominent pro-Russian activist before the illegal occupation of Crimea in 2014, when he declared himself the “people’s governor” of Donetsk region after pro-Russian separatists took over the local regional council.

He was later suspended by other separatist leaders, such as Denys Pusilin, the current head of the Russian-appointed “civilian-military” administration in Donetsk, and barred from participating in parliamentary elections allegedly organized by pro-Russian rebels.

Shortly after declaring himself a “people’s governor” in March 2014, he was arrested by the SBU, the Security Service of Ukraine. But only two months later, he was released in exchange for SBU officers arrested by Donbas separatist fighters.

Pro-Russian separatists canceled his post of “people’s governor” immediately after holding the so-called parliamentary elections in the regions controlled by them in the east of Ukraine 8 years ago.
