Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu on Tuesday urged Ukraine’s allies “not to be intimidated” by warnings from the Russian ambassador to the United States about crossing “red lines” by supplying arms to Kyiv, CNN reports.

“The whole policy of appeasement – what we sometimes used to avoid escalation – where have we come? To this genocidal type of war, and now I think we should not be afraid. What else can happen? Genocide is happening. And, for the sake of humanity, for the sake of our own European security, we must act,” Reinsalu told CNN.

He said he believed that allies should increase their support for Ukraine.

There is a need for “new supplies from Western countries for air defense, for the protection of especially civilian areas, civilian infrastructure, especially before the fall and winter,” the minister added.

As for Putin’s veiled threats of a nuclear strike, Reinsaloo said “that’s part of this game of chicken and we shouldn’t fall into that trap.”

He added: “The only person who can stop the war immediately is Putin.”
