The former British Prime Minister is expected to follow in the footsteps of other predecessors and embark on a new career as an orator and writer.

The path seems almost ready for any leader who has spent many years in the spotlight. After being removed from power, he embarks on a new career: a speaker at conferences, but also a memoirist: his own memoirs.

According to political observers in England, Boris Johnson, following the example of previous British leaders, is going to “become” a “company” in the near future, offering mainly two “products”: memoirs and speeches / lectures.

What the 58-year-old former prime minister is not expected to do, at least not immediately, as the New York Times article points out, is to try to return to leadership or political/party duties. It is noted, of course, that Boris Johnson remains an MP.

If he wants, Boris Johnson could join the lecture series at the perfect time. Corporate conferences and annual meetings are now live again after about two years of the pandemic. In late September, the Clinton Global Initiative held its first conference since 2019, and about 5,700 people signed up for the Fast Company Innovation Festival, up about 700 from three years ago.

According to an article in the New York Times, Boris Johnson can receive up to $250,000 in fees for each of his performances. In 2019, after stepping down as foreign secretary, he delivered a three-hour speech for which he was reportedly rewarded with around $132,000. As a journalist himself, for the articles he published in the Telegraph, he received approximately $25,000 a month in 2019.

However, if he wants to make a career as a paid speaker, Boris Johnson may have to move outside the UK. According to a New York Times article, the 58-year-old actor may have done better in the US than in the UK.

He could sign with agencies like the Harry Walker Agency in New York or the Speakers Bureau in Washington, which represents Theresa May, John Major and other former prime ministers.

However, his memoirs are estimated at between $1.1 million and $2.2 million, according to British sources in the New York Times. Publishers such as Rupert Murdoch’s Harper Collins, which has published books by former British Prime Ministers (John Major, David Cameron), might be interested in publishing such a book. However, British media reports that Boris Johnson has already started writing his memoirs, which he even wants to finish by Christmas.
