Mattarella: Italy knows how to take care of itself

OUR Italian chairman Sergio Mattarellaanswering a reporter’s question in Turin tonight about possible “surveillance” of Italy by foreign states, he said: “Italy knows how to take care of itself, respecting the Constitution and the values of the European Union.

Obviously, the question concerned the statement of the French Minister for European Affairs Laurence Boone, who, in an interview with the newspaper La Repubblica, stressed: “We want to cooperate with Rome, but we will pay special attention to respect for the values and norms of the rule of law.”

The president of the “Brothers of Italy” Georgia Meloni, for her part, stressed that “these words are too similar to an unacceptable threat of interference in the affairs of a sovereign country that is a member of the European Union.”

Toward evening, finally, according to the Italian press, the associates of the French minister wanted to reduce the tone of confrontation and clarified that “the minister does not want to teach anyone lessons” and that “France respects the democratic choice of the Italians.”
