
Actress Louise FletcherThe American actress who won the Best Actress Oscar for Milos Forman’s 1975 film In the Cuckoo’s Nest has died at the age of 88 in France, according to the Associated Press.
Her son Andrew Beek told The Hollywood Reporter that Fletcher died Friday of natural causes. Fletcher has battled breast cancer twice.
The actress won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1976 for her performance as ruthless nurse Mildred Ratchet in Milos Forman’s In the Cuckoo’s Nest, which also won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Screenplay.
In her speech at the awards evening, she used sign language to thank her deaf parents.
Fletcher, born July 22, 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, was the second of four children in her family.
She married actor Jerry Beek in the early 1960s and had two sons with him, John and Andrew. According to the Associated Press, she divorced Beak in 1977.
