The security of his justice minister Belgium Vincent van Kickernborn received reinforcements after being arrested in Netherlandsof three people associated with a “serious threat” against him.

According to the Flemish newspaper Het Laatste Niews, a firearm was found in a car with Dutch license plates that was seen near the minister’s house.

The Belgian Federal Prosecutor’s Office did not confirm the information, but declared a “serious threat”. In his statement, he specified that three people were arrested in the night from Friday to Saturday in the Netherlands and their extradition to Belgium was requested.

Prosecutors said they were told last week of a “possible” threat to Kickernborn and a preliminary investigation found it “should be taken seriously.”

The Minister will not participate in some of the planned activities in the coming days. Prosecutors did not provide more details about the ongoing investigation.
