Russian troops left on the battlefield after a chaotic withdrawal more military equipment and weapons than any Western country has donated to Ukraine since the beginning of the war, analysts and military officials estimate, citing The Wall Street Journal, independent Russian publication Jellyfish notes.

Heavy weapons seized during Russia’s withdrawal from Kyiv and other parts of northern Ukraine in April, combined with weapons obtained from recent gains, have made Moscow the largest supplier of heavy weapons to Ukraine, far ahead of the United States or other allies, according to intelligence analysts open sources. However, the weapons supplied by the West are usually more advanced and more accurate, the WSJ notes.

According to Oryx, which monitors the destruction of military equipment in Ukraine, the armed forces of Kyiv captured 460 Russian tanks, and Western countries provided 320, 92 self-propelled guns, 448 BMPs, 210 arrived from the West, 195 armored personnel carriers, while 40 were provided by the West, and 44 missile complexes, while 70 were provided by the West.

This information was collected from open sources, so the actual number of seized vehicles may be higher, The Wall Street Journal notes.

“We have too many trophies”

“We have so many trophies that we don’t even know what to do with them,” says Ruslan Andreyko, deputy chief of staff of the “Karpatska Sich” battalion.

“We started as a motorized rifle battalion, and now we are going to become a mechanized battalion,” Andreiko said.

At the same time, analyst Yakub Yanovsky from Oryx notes that only part of the Russian weapons captured by the Ukrainians can be used.

“What’s being confiscated is a mix of modern equipment that can be used quite effectively and what should actually be kept in museums,” Yanovsky said.

The Ukrainian army took modern weapons from the Russians

However, the WSJ reports that in recent months, Ukrainian armed forces have managed to get their hands on some of Russia’s most advanced weapons, such as T-90 tanks and BTR-82 armored personnel carriers.

Oleksiy Danilov, head of the NSDC, noted that mostly large equipment is distributed through the logistics department, while small arms and ammunition remain in the units that captured them.

But the “Karpatska Sich” battalion, having transferred the self-propelled guns to other troops, was able to leave the tanks for which the crews were found.

The tanks are now attached to the battalion and regularly supplied with ammunition and fuel.
