Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday condemned the alleged attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea, which he said was an “act of international terrorism” during a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan.

During the conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Putin “expressed his views on this unprecedented act of sabotage, in fact an act of international terrorism, against Nord Stream-1 and Nord Stream-2,” the Kremlin said in a statement, according to AFP. and Agerpress.

Four gas leaks from the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines connecting Russia and Germany across the Baltic Sea were reported in the exclusive economic zones of Denmark and Sweden this week.

Gas supplies through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline were suspended by Russia this month, and the new Nord Stream 2 pipeline was not put into operation due to European sanctions imposed on Moscow after the start of military aggression against Ukraine. Although two pipelines were decommissioned, they remained filled with gas.
