According to the Institute for the Study of War, there were reports that the city partially fell under Russian control after the May 31 battle.

On June 6, the spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Igor Konashenkov, said that Russian troops are completing the capture of the city. Later that day, the head of the People’s Republic of Ukraine, Denys Pushylin, said that Sviatohirsk was almost freed from Ukrainian forces, except for an unnamed hill somewhere in the city. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the full capture of the city the next day, June 7.

On September 5, the border police released a video showing Ukrainian strikes on Russian positions in this city.
