
The Bank of England announced tonight that banknotes bearing his image Queen Elizabeth B’ remain in effect after her death (previously today at the age of 96).
“Following the end of the mourning period, a new announcement of existing Bank of England notes will follow,” the statement said.
Queen Elizabeth II was the first monarch to be featured on banknotes of the Bank of England.
“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the death of Her Majesty the Queen. On behalf of everyone at the Bank (England), I would like to express our deepest condolences to the Royal Family,” Governor Andrew Bailey said.
