Liz Truss: Donations linked to fossil fuels

LONDON. Thursday, the day the Queen died, was the perfect day to “bury” unwanted news in Britannia. Thus the fact that Liz Trussthe country’s new prime minister, reached his post thanks to the generous help of representatives of the fossil fuel industry.

The Trust’s concern not to upset the industry was already evident in the fact that it appointed Jacob Rees Mogg, a politician with no interest in the climate crisis, to the Department of Economy and Energy.

Now, official figures due to be released by the prime minister have shown that the largest donation to the party’s campaign came from the wife of a former BP leader. The donation was £100,000, equal to a quarter of the other 20 donations he reported.

In announcing its energy policy, Tras argued that excess profits from energy companies should not be taxed, citing the need for new investment.

Economists argue that taxing windfall profits has nothing to do with companies’ investment decisions and that the link between the two is designed to make wealth accumulation amid unprecedented energy poverty more acceptable to society.

The excess profits of UK fossil fuel companies are expected to reach £170bn over the next two years, a staggering amount for their UK operations alone.

The fact that they exploit the deposits located within the country does not oblige them to manage these deposits as a source of wealth for the entire British people. Any political movement that might force them to move in that direction is prevented by the appointment of appropriate political cadres to positions of responsibility.
