
24 employees of the Customs Service of Ukraine were dismissed, and four foreign citizens, including a Romanian, lost their Ukrainian citizenship as a result of the SBI investigation aimed at Russia’s influence on the activities of customs authorities in the country occupied by Russia, according to The Kyiv Independent. During searches, the SBU found weapons, ammunition and explosives in the possession of suspicious persons.
The persons investigated by the special services of Ukraine engaged in illegal activities through structures and tried to influence customs officers.
According to the SBU, a Romanian and three Russians were on the sanctioned lists of smugglers and initiated the deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship of four persons.
Ukrainian special services claim that they tried to circumvent restrictions, carried out illegal activities and tried to influence Ukrainian officials.
Under the supervision of the General Prosecutor’s Office, 23 searches were conducted at several sanctioned persons, as a result of which weapons, ammunition and explosives were discovered.
So far, 24 customs officers, including high-level civil servants, have already been suspended.
