The Belarusian Defense Ministry said on Thursday that the military exercises are underway in the city of Brest, near the border with Poland, the capital Minsk and in the northeastern region of Vitebsk, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus said on Thursday, according to Reuters.
The Ministry of Defense of Belarus said that during the exercises, which will last until September 14, the “liberation of the territory temporarily occupied by the enemy” and the restoration of control over the border areas will be worked out.
According to the ministry, the number of troops and military equipment involved in the exercise did not require them to provide notification in accordance with OSCE guidelines.
Belarus, an ally of Russia
Belarus is a faithful ally of Russia. Russian air and missile strikes on Ukraine were carried out from its territory, and on February 24, Moscow’s troops entered Ukraine and from the side of the border with Belarus. In any case, to date, Minsk has not directly entered into the conflict.
