Four people were killed and at least three injured in a series of mass shootings that lasted several hours yesterday, Wednesday, in Memphis, Tennessee, in the southeastern United States, local police said today, and a suspect was arrested.

The man, identified as 19-year-old Ezekiel Kelly, was arrested yesterday at around 9:00 pm local time (04:00 Greek time today) and taken into custody, according to police chief Sherelyn Davis, who said police found two pistol in his car when he arrested him.

He is said to have killed his first victim shortly after midnight yesterday, and then continued his killings throughout the city in the afternoon and early evening.

Police located at least eight crime scenes, including a violent car theft and a store shooting, Davis said, noting that Kelly broadcast some of his activities on Facebook Live.

Authorities advised residents to stay in their homes during these attacks.

Massacres and other violent gun incidents are common in the US, but gun control remains a very sensitive political issue, and Congress continues to show reluctance to tighten gun laws.
