The popular children’s animated series for the first time included a same-sex couple in their roles.
The episode of the popular animated series “Peppa Pig”, which aired in the UK last Tuesday, September 6, called “Families”, was somewhat different and therefore remarkable for its diversity.
In this episode, one of Peppa’s classmates, Penny the White Bear, is shown to have two moms.
“I am Penny the polar bear. I live with my mom and my other mom. One mom is a doctor and the other cooks spaghetti,” Penny says before sitting down at the same table with her two moms to eat.
“For the first time in its 18-year history, the series features a family with LGBTI+ parents,” writes the Guardian in the article.
It’s really nice to see an age-appropriate image of same-sex couples on @Peppa Pig with Penny and her two mummies. We love “One mom is a doctor and the other cooks spaghetti. I love spaghetti.” #PrimaryRocks #WomenEd #lesbianVisibility #DiverseEd https://t.co/EuZPdDcUDK

Recall that in the past the Peppa Pig series was criticized for anachronistic propaganda of gender stereotypes.
In the same context, since 2019, a campaign to collect signatures has also been launched asking the creators of the series to include a same-sex couple with a child in the heroes (“Demand a same-sex parental family on Peppe Pig!”).
Now that a same-sex couple has emerged, many applaud. At the same time, however, there are reactions, mainly through social media comments.
Recall that just a few months ago, 14 countries banned the children’s film “Lightyear” due to the fact that in one of its scenes two people of the same sex kiss.
