Russia “continues to lose a significant amount of equipment and personnel,” British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace told MPs in the House of Commons, The Guardian reports.
According to his estimates, more than 25 thousand Russian soldiers have died so far, and in general, if we take into account the wounded, captured or tens of thousands of deserters, the figure will increase to more than 80 thousand.
“This will have a long-term impact on the Russian army and its future combat capability. Russia has not yet achieved any of its strategic goals. And we are now on the 194th day of the campaign, which was supposed to be for one month in total,” said the minister.
Wallace compared Russian President Vladimir Putin to a drug dealer who makes European countries “addicted” to gas.
He called for unity across the continent during the winter, adding:
“If we don’t unite, if we don’t stand up now, these threats won’t go away on their own, and for the people of Prague or Cologne, if you give in to a drug dealer. – or the guy who got you addicted to heroin, he’ll come back for more in a few years.”
