Patel’s decision was announced hours after Thras’s victory in the intra-party election for the leadership of the Conservative Party was announced. “I congratulate Liz Truss on her election and support her as the new prime minister,” Patel said in her resignation letter to Boris Johnson.
“I have decided to continue serving the country and the County of Witham, sitting in the background when Liz Truss officially takes over and appoints a new home secretary,” he added.
Liz Truss is expected to arrive tomorrow at 12:10 (UK time, 14:10 Greek time) at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, where she will receive an official appointment from Queen Elizabeth. According to a Palace spokesman, he will leave Balmoral around 12 noon.
