“We were able to collect a lot of information in a few hours. I saw the main thing that I needed to see,” Rafael Grossi told the Russian media, accompanying a delegation of IAEA experts to a plant in southern Ukraine seized by Russian troops.
The Ukrainian state company Energoatom later reported on Telegram that Grossi had left the nuclear plant.
A group of inspectors remains at the scene.
According to the Ukrainian company that manages the country’s nuclear power plants, 5 IAEA representatives will remain at the plant site, possibly until September 3.
However, a little earlier, the Russian Interfax news agency reported that after Grossi’s departure, 8-12 IAEA inspectors remained at the NPP site. The agency cited Alexander Volga, the Moscow-appointed governor of the neighboring Russian-controlled city of Energodar.
