Finland introduced new rules on Thursday that make it more difficult for Russian citizens to obtain a tourist visa, DPA and Agerpres reported.
From September 1, Finnish authorities will allow only about 100 appointments a day for Russians who want to apply for a tourist visa, down from about 1,000 a day.
Instead, according to the Finnish government, an average of 400 appointments will be booked every day for Russian citizens applying for visas to enter Finland “for other reasons”, meaning journalists, dissidents or activists who want to leave Russia.
After an informal two-day meeting in Prague, EU foreign ministers on Wednesday reached a political consensus on the complete suspension of the visa facilitation agreement between the European Union and Russia. Read: The EU suspended the agreement that made it easier for Russians to obtain visas
