The Manchester resident bought, vs. 869,000 eurosher old personal car Princess Dianaat an auction in Britanniaa few days before the 25th anniversary of her death.

The car’s original valuation was £100,000. But would-be buyers from Dubai and the US went to war with the bidding, eventually pushing the price up to just under $650,000 — excluding taxes and auction house interest. And despite bids from overseas, the 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo will remain in the UK after an anonymous buyer from Manchester emerges as the winner of this ‘battle’.

The princess’s car was the highlight of an auction organized by Silverstone Auctions on the Silverstone track, 120km northwest of London. This is a 130 hp sports car.

According to Silverstone Auctions, Diana drove the car herself in London, although she was always accompanied by a bodyguard. Among other things, she was carrying her first child, Prince William. The car is in excellent condition with only 40,000 miles on it. The princess used it for three years, from 1985 to 1988, after which it changed hands several times.

In June 2021, another engagement gift from Diana’s Ford Escort was sold to an American collector for £52,000.
