Amy Harris, 40, and Robert Kurlander, 58, pleaded guilty. in the case of the theft of personal belongings of Ashley Biden – daughter of the current president of the United States Joe Biden – in 2020, when he was a candidate in the presidential election.
Among the stolen personal items it was a handwritten diary, a mobile phone and a memory card with family photos.
The daughter of the current US president left her personal belongings at a friend’s house in Florida in the spring of 2020, where Amy Harris was staying at the time.
Harris and Kurlander are accused of trying to sell the diary to Donald Trump’s campaign, which reportedly turned down their offer. They then turned to a conservative group called Project Veritas, known for their support of the Republican tycoon.
According to court documents, they received $20,000 each from Project Veritas, which ultimately decided not to release the stories from the diary because it could not confirm that it really belonged to Biden’s daughter. The New York Times reports that Project Veritas, weeks before the 2020 presidential election, tried to trick Ashley Biden into admitting it was her personal diary.
The FBI launched an investigation after the conservative website National File published the contents of a diary that included Ashley Biden’s personal details. National File claims to have received the documents from a member of the Project Veritas team.
Amy Harris and Robert Kurlander could go to jail for up to five years.
