“It is clear that this whole affair raises a more general security issue in terms of protecting military secrets of the NATO base in Naples and the US Sixth Fleet,” emphasize many Italian analysts.

Finally, according to La Repubblica, Italian intelligence sources say that about a third of Russian diplomats in Italy (about 80 out of 240) are allegedly employees of the three Moscow intelligence services.
