Prime Minister Nicolae Cuke announced on Wednesday that Romania has received the first tranche of aid provided by the European Union to cover costs related to housing and feeding refugees from Ukraine, News.ro reports.
“The country received the first amount of money from the European Union. This is 39.1 million euros. The appropriate funds are at the disposal of the emergency management. “The coordination of all activities for the reimbursement of funds spent at the level of local authorities on what constitutes refugee management in Romania is carried out through the DSU,” the Prime Minister said on Wednesday in Suceava.
He also informed that currently our country has accepted more than two million Ukrainian refugees, of which approximately 85 thousand have decided to stay in Romania.
“We already have more than two million citizens of Ukraine who have entered our country. We have 84-85 thousand who decided to stay on the national territory. About half, 38 thousand, are children. Approximately the same number of women, 6 thousand men. It is clear that since the funds come from the EU, they will cover the amounts spent from the state budget, and from the Government, based on the requests of the local authorities, the money goes to support the authorities,” Chuke concluded.
