Hungary does not even want to negotiate new energy sanctions for Russia, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Sijarto.
Sijarto said this after a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Urmas Reinsalu.
“Energy sanctions hurt Europe more than Russia”
“It was a long discussion, and we agreed on the most important thing: the war in Ukraine must end as soon as possible! I told him that, as a neighboring country, we are particularly interested in peace as soon as possible. However, we think differently about the usefulness of sanctions for achieving peace, the Hungarian minister also wrote. The Estonian government will initiate a new package of sanctions, and on this occasion I immediately pointed out that Hungary does not even want to negotiate new energy sanctions. At the moment, it is physically impossible to provide Hungary with oil and natural gas without Russian energy carriers, so we will not agree that the Hungarian people pay the price of war, the head of Hungarian diplomacy wrote on Facebook, MTI reports.
Energy sanctions hurt Europe more than Russia, so their strengthening is completely illogical, Sijarto also said.
As for the proposal to strengthen the conditions for issuing European visas to citizens of Russia, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry stated that Hungary does not intend to introduce any restrictions.
