France: Eight tons of fish died due to drought and high temperatures

Eight tons of fish have been found dead from suffocation in Lake Mable in central-eastern France. drought This was announced today by the Loire Fisheries Federation. An organized rescue operation allowed about 1% of the fish to survive.

A total of 80 volunteers collected 10.5 tons of dead fish on Monday and another 500 kilograms today from Lake Cornignon, according to Vincent Garnier, the Federation’s spokesman in charge of developing fisheries in the region.

In the operation, organized through social media, volunteers took shovels and collected the few surviving fish before dumping them in the Loire. In total, about 100 kg of fish were saved. Approximately three-quarters of the fish that died from suffocation were carps.

Due to the fall in the level of the Loire, which feeds this lake, and in combination with the high temperatures that prevailed in the area, the percentage of oxygen in the water decreased and the amount of algae increased, as a result of which the fish died from suffocation.
