Russian politicians attended a memorial service Tuesday for Daria Dugina, the daughter of Alexander Dugin, one of Russia’s most prominent nationalist ideologues, honoring her as a martyr whose death should inspire Russian troops fighting in Ukraine, Reuters reported.
Daria Dugina, the daughter of the ultra-nationalist Oleksandr Dugin, was killed in a car bomb explosion near Moscow on Saturday. Russia’s FSB accuses Ukrainian special services of preparing her murder, Kyiv denies this.
The killing of Daria Dugina, the daughter of the ideologue of Russian ultra-nationalism Oleksandr Dugin, was “a shooting by the Russian special services, Ukraine has nothing to do with it,” said the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. , Oleksiy Danilov quotes EFE and DSNews.
As Wednesday marks six months since what Russia calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine, Dugina’s killing has sparked calls for revenge among Moscow’s political elite. The US Embassy in Kyiv warned of possible Russian attacks in the coming days.
Senior politicians, fellow nationalists and friends filed past Dugina’s dark wooden coffin in the hall of the Moscow Television Center on Tuesday morning to say goodbye, lay flowers and offer condolences to her parents, who were by her side.
A large black-and-white photograph of 30-year-old Daria Dugina, who, according to Russian media, worked as a journalist and political scientist, hung on a black wall behind the coffin while somber music played.
Daria Dugina “died for Russia”
Her father, Oleksandr Dugin, nicknamed Putin’s ideologue, who for years advocated the creation of a new Russian empire that would absorb the territory of countries such as Ukraine, told the audience that his daughter had died for Russia.
“If her tragic death had affected anyone, she would have asked him to protect the holy Russian Orthodoxy, the people and the Motherland,” said Dugin, dressed in black and visibly shaken.
“She died for Russia, in the Motherland and on the front line, which is not in Ukraine, but here,” Dugin said.
Russian politicians condemned Daria Dugin
Konstantin Malofeev, a close family friend and ultra-nationalist tycoon, set the tone for many of the tributes that followed from Russian politicians, honoring Daria Dugin as a martyr whose death made Russia’s victory against Ukraine all the more important.
“People who fight against us do not understand that the Russian people are not only those who are alive now. These are those who lived before us and will live after. And we will become stronger with the blood of our martyrs. And thanks to the premature death of our dear beloved Dasha, we will definitely win this war,” he said.
The parliamentary leaders of the three main pro-Kremlin parties spoke at the service, calling Dugina a patriot and promising that those who ordered and carried out the attack on her would be punished.
Russian leaders demand the destruction of Kyiv
Leonid Slutsky, the leader of the ultra-nationalist LDPR party, expects streets and squares to be named after Dugina before making a call for unity.
“One country, one president, one victory,” Leonid Slutsky addressed the audience.
A message of condolence was also read from a Russian-backed leader in eastern Ukraine, and Serhii Mironov, who heads the Just Russia party in parliament, called for the destruction of what he called the “regime” in Kyiv.
“Victory will be the best monument for Dasha,” Mironov said.
