“This is serious,” says a man who is not visible in the frame. When passers-by tried to approach the police, one of them ordered them not to approach.
“Like many of you, I was shocked by what I saw,” said Gary Baxter, mayor of Mulberry, where the incident took place. He said that one of the police officers was placed on “administrative leave” pending the results of the investigation. Two others who work in Crawford County have also been suspended and the sheriff has vowed to take “appropriate action.”
The violent arrest took place around 10:40 am Sunday local time outside a grocery store. The victim, 27-year-old Randa Wooster, was taken to the hospital and then taken into custody. He is accused of disobedience, resisting authorities and assault. According to Sheriff Crawford Jimmy Damante, he allegedly threatened a gas station attendant who called the police. The sheriff said Wooster was initially cooperative but then became aggressive and tried to attack the officers.
Arkansas Republican Gov. Isaiah Hutchinson said on Twitter that he spoke with the state police chief and assured that the case would be investigated.
