
Its principles Equatorial announced Saturday yesterday that 3.2 tons of cocaine had been seized, of which 2 tons were hidden in banana containers and destined for Europe.
“As a result of the investigation, more than two tons of cocaine were seized in a container from Guayaquil destined for Europe,” the police said in a statement.
Containers containing a total of one ton and 213 kilograms of cocaine were also found at another port in the Guayas region, according to Ecuadorian police.
Last year, the country’s authorities seized 210 tons of drugs, mostly cocaine. This year, drugs seized exceeded 100 tons.
In 2020, Ecuador was the third country in the world with the largest cocaine seizures, after Colombia and the United States, according to the UN.
