
Head of the regional SBU department of the SBU. Oleksandr Nakonechini was found dead in his home in the center of Ukraine, the General Prosecutor’s Office said on Sunday, AFP reported, citing news.ro.
Oleksandr Nakonechini’s wife heard a shot in the apartment in Kropytskyi late on Saturday evening, after which she found her husband’s bullet-riddled body in the room, the prosecutor’s office said in a Telegram message.
Police have opened an investigation to determine the cause of death, the prosecutor’s office said, without specifying what the investigation’s assumptions are.
Local elected representative Andrii Lavrus reported in a Telegram post that an SBU employee committed suicide with a bullet to the head.
Oleksandr Nakonechini headed the SBU department in the Kirovohrad region from January 2021.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi fired SBU director Ivan Bakanov in July, accusing him of insufficient efforts in the fight against Moscow spies and collaborators who invaded Ukraine at the end of February.
Then the head of the Ukrainian state announced a “personnel audit” in the SBU.
In recent months, several high-ranking SBU officials have been dismissed.
