Israel and Turkey decided to fully restore their diplomatic relations and return each other’s ambassadors and consuls general to the two countries after the steady improvement of bilateral relations, Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s office said today.
“The modernization of relations will help strengthen ties between the two peoples, expand economic, trade and cultural ties and strengthen regional stability,” the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
In Ankara, Turkish Foreign Minister Mesvlut Cavusoglu said after Israel’s statement that despite the full restoration of Turkish-Israeli relations, Turkey “will not give up the Palestinian cause.”
Turkish and Israeli ambassadors to Tel Aviv and Ankara were recalled in 2018 after the deaths of 60 Palestinian demonstrators in Gaza.
