The state-owned operator of Ukraine’s nuclear power plant, Energoatom, condemned the “unprecedented” Russian cyber attack on its website in a statement on Tuesday, saying its work had not been disrupted, AFP reported.
“On August 16, 2022, the most powerful cyber attack since the beginning of the Russian invasion took place on the official website of NAEK Energoatom,” the operator reported on Telegram. He added that the site “was attacked from the territory of Russia.”
The Russian group “People’s Cyber Army” used 7.25 million Internet bots that attacked Energoatom’s website within three hours, the Ukrainian company reported, claiming that the hacking attempt “did not significantly affect the activity of Energoatom’s website.”
At noon, the Telegram channel under the Russian name “People’s Cyber Army” called on its subscribers to attack the “Energoatom” website.
During the evening, he announced “changes”, targeting the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, whose website had problems.
The attacks come amid tensions surrounding the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in the south of the country, which has been occupied by Russian troops since March, shortly after Moscow invaded Ukraine.
