
A Russian court fined the streaming service Twitch 2 million rubles (about 32,000 euros) for distributing a short video that contained, in the court’s opinion, “false” information about alleged war crimes in the Ukrainian city of Bucha, Russian news agencies reported on Tuesday. Russia has repeatedly threatened to fine sites including Google GOOGL.O, Twitter TWTR.N and Wikipedia, which it accuses of hosting “fake” content related to its military campaign in Ukraine.
The court accused the American streaming service Twitch, popular among fans of video games, for not removing a 31-second clip with a girl from the city of Bucha, Kommersant newspaper reports, without clarifying the content of the video.
Amazon-owned Twitch did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Ukraine and its allies accuse Russian forces of committing atrocities in Buch, a city in Kyiv region, after Moscow launched its invasion in February. Russia rejects the accusations.
The RIA previously reported that Telegram received two fines totaling 11 million rubles (172,000 euros) for refusing to remove channels that allegedly showed military vehicles “sabotaging” and contained false information about Russia’s progress in what it calls ” special military operation” in Ukraine.
