
Flash floods due to heavy rains have killed at least 29 people and destroyed dozens of homes in the east of the country. AfghanistanThis was announced today by officials.
At least 20 people were killed and 50 injured in Parwan, according to Mohammad Naseeb Haqqani, a spokesman for the disaster management ministry.
He added that five people were killed in Kapisa province and four in Nangarhar province.
Hundreds of people are still missing in Parwan, added Hekmatullah Samim, a spokesman for the provincial governor.
“Crops, dozens of houses and roads were destroyed,” Mohammad Nasib Haqqani explained.
Rescue units were sent to the affected areas.
Dozens of Afghans die every year from heavy rains, mostly in poor rural areas where makeshift houses can easily collapse.
