Russian television presented a new, far-fetched theory, claiming that European countries rallied behind Ukraine because they were still angry about centuries of defeats by Russia.

“Western countries still cannot forgive us for the defeats they suffered in the campaigns against Russia,” began his monologue by TV presenter Dmytro Kiselyov, who is called “the most toxic propagandist of the Kremlin.”

He declares that “the Swedes do not forgive us for humiliating the army [regelui] Charles XII in the Battle of Poltava, and now they demand to end Russia precisely through Poltava,” he continues, possibly referring to the fact that Sweden, like Finland, abandoned its historical neutrality and asked to join NATO after the war began. in Ukraine at the end of February.

“But they lack the courage to fight with themselves, so they found fools in Ukraine to fight with Russia,” he says.

Kiselyov then turns to the French, who, he says, have not forgiven Russia for the Battle of Borodino, “which was a strategic failure for the campaign against Russia of Napoleon’s great army, an armada of 600,000 men.”

The Russian TV presenter then reviews all the European countries occupied by Napoleon that provided soldiers for the “Grand Army”, focusing mainly on the German states. “In fact, half the soldiers in the great army were German-speaking,” he says.

From Napoleon to World War II: A Select History Lesson on Television in Russia

At the same time, Kiselyov “forgets” to mention that the British Empire, which at that time was the largest maritime power in the world, was an ally of Russia in the conflict against Napoleon. Instead, in the May show, Kiselyov threatened that Britain would be turned into a “radioactive desert” because of military support for Ukraine.

Addressing the Germans, the Russian propagandist declares that they are “evil to this day. They shake hands with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and at the same time tell it to “finish the scoundrels.”

Kiselyov then says that Germany will still be angry about the defeat at Stalingrad and the capture of Berlin in World War II.

“By the way, in addition to the Germans, thousands of Italians and Romanians took part in the Battle of Stalingrad,” Kiselyov continues his speech, “forgetting” that Romania then returned its weapons and fought on the side of the Soviet Union and its allies.

“As for Berlin, in addition to the German divisions, it was also defended by the Nordland SS division, which consisted of Danes, Dutch and Norwegians,” Dmytro Kiselyov also notes.

He ends his history lesson by recalling that the Reichstag, the German parliament building under which Adolf Hitler’s bunker was located, was defended by members of the Charlemagne SS Division, made up of French volunteers who had enlisted to fight Bolshevism.

Dmytro Kiselyov claims that Russia is a much freer country than Western countries

In another of his programs in June, the Russian TV presenter declared without batting an eye:

“Compared to the West, Russia is a very free country. We have a competition of ideas, but Europe is regressing in this regard.”

He also said that “we’ve been through this before, where people were punished or worse because of their views. It has come to this in the West,” – before he started talking about the “chaos” in Europe in his show on the Rossiya-1 channel.

Although he is not as well-known outside of Russia as his colleague Volodymyr Solovyov, who even called for the invasion of Germany and discussed on his show how to execute captured soldiers in Ukraine, Kiselyov has over the years earned a reputation as “the Kremlin’s biggest toxic propagandist” through numerous aggressive statements about other countries.
