According to police, the protesters who blocked catwick bridge they attacked the police using pepper spray. In response, the police used pepper spray, batons and pressurized water cannons to disperse the crowd.
A spokesman for the organizers of the demonstration called the incidents “a new peak in police violence.”
Activists also boycotted Kelbrand bridge and, among others, the rails used by the Port Authority of Hamburg.
“We have blocked Germany’s central foreign trade hub to draw attention to the effects of modern colonialism,” environmental movement Extinction Rebellion said in a statement.
Five marches were announced yesterday in Hamburg. In the first major mobilization, some 2,000 men marched from Altona Park to the nearest railway station.
