Writer Salman Rushdie still intubated, at risk of losing sight in one eye, sustained severe nerve damage in one arm and liver after being stabbed Friday, his agent, Andrew Wiley.

“The news is not good. Salman is likely to lose sight in one eye, the nerves in his arm have been severed and his liver has been stabbed,” Wylie said in a written statement.

The offender was a 24-year-old man from New Jersey.

According to the police report, the assailant burst onto the stage as Rushdie was preparing to give a speech at the Chotokwa Foundation event and stabbed the 75-year-old author in the neck, who collapsed to the floor.
