What the British military special services say:
- The two main road bridges that provide access to the Russian-occupied “pocket” of territory on the west bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast are now likely to be down due to heavy military supplies.
- On August 10, 2022, Ukrainian high-precision strikes probably made the Dnipro crossing in Novaya Kakhovka unfit for the passage of heavy military equipment.
- In recent days, Russia has only managed to superficially repair the Antonivskyi road bridge, which was damaged and probably remains structurally undermined.
- Last week, the main railway bridge near Kherson was additionally damaged.
- Since the end of July 2022, Russia has been using the pontoon crossing near the railway bridge as the main route for military supplies.
- Even if Russia manages to significantly repair the bridges, they will remain a key vulnerability.
- Replenishment of land for several thousand Russian troops on the west bank almost certainly depends only on two pontoon ferry crossings.
- Given that the supply chain is limited, the size of the arsenals that Russia has been able to build on the West Bank is likely to be a key factor in the resilience of this military force.
