Company McDonald’s Corporation announced plans to open its restaurants in Ukraine in the coming months, an early sign of the return of Western business to the country, even as the war with Russia continues.

The company closed all its restaurants in Ukraine and Russia in March, after her invasion Moscowsimultaneously selling most of its restaurants in Russia to one of the local licensees in May.

McDonald’s said it would gradually reopen some restaurants, starting in the capital, Kyiv and western Ukraine.

“After extensive consultations and discussions with Ukrainian officials, suppliers and security experts, and taking into account requests from our employees to return to work, we have decided to develop a phased plan to open some restaurants in Kyiv and western Ukraine,” Paul said. Pomeroy, head of international market operations at McDonald’s, in a message to employees.

The company stressed that it is working with suppliers to deliver groceries to restaurants and bring employees back to its stores in Ukraine with enhanced security protocols.

McDonald’s had 109 restaurants in Ukraine, but the company did not specify how many of them it plans to reopen.
