On Wednesday morning, August 10, 76-year-old former US President Donald Trump showed up at the office of New York Attorney General Leticia James to clarify some of the activities of his business group.
RS. James is investigating allegations that the Trump Group artificially inflated the value of its property in order to obtain soft loans from banks and other benefits from the IRS.
Leaving – after hours – the New York Attorney General’s office, Donald Trump hailed the “very professional” way Leticia James’s team handled the meeting between them.
However, according to the Washington Post, citing sources who allegedly know what is revealed behind the closed doors of the prosecutor’s office, the former Republican president refused to answer more than … 400 questions from the prosecutor, taking advantage of the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution. The U.S. Constitution (“take the fifth,” as the phrase sounds in English), which allows investigators to “remain silent” so as not to testify against themselves.
