On Thursday, the United States called on Russia to end all military operations in and around Ukrainian nuclear power plants and said it supported Kiev’s request to create a “demilitarized zone” in re-bombed Zaporizhzhia.
“The fight near the nuclear power plant is dangerous and irresponsible,” said the spokesman of the State Department, according to AFP. He added that “the United States continues to demand that Russia cease all military operations at and around the nuclear power plant and return full control to Ukraine, and supports Ukraine’s call for a demilitarized zone at and around the nuclear power plant.”
The Ukrainian nuclear energy company Energoatom said on Thursday that the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant was bombed again by the Russians, Reuters reports.
Energoatom stated that the territory of the station was hit five times, including near the place where radioactive materials are stored, but no one was injured and the situation at the station remains under control.
The separatists accuse Ukraine of a second bombing of a nuclear power plant on Thursday, reports the Russian news agency TASS with reference to Reuters.
