At least eight people died overnight in the South Korean capital as heavy rain caused power outages, turned roads into rivers and flooded homes, shops and subway stations.
It cannot be excluded that the final death toll will even increase, since there are people who are still missing. A 13-year-old child was among the dead.
The rainfall that fell on the night of Monday to Tuesday was unprecedented in size, reaching between 100 and 102 millimeters of rain per hour, with experts even talking about an 80-year record.

The South Korean Meteorological Agency has issued an emergency warning of the risk of extreme weather events in the Seoul metropolitan area, which is home to a total of about 26 million people.
The meteorological service expects heavy rain in the central part of the country to continue until at least tomorrow, Wednesday.
