
Severe weather hit the Irpinia region in Kato late tonight. Italy and, according to the country’s media, “tragic consequences were almost miraculously avoided.”
In the town of Monteforte Irpino, heavy rain washed away dozens of parked cars.
The mayor asked residents to stay at home, no casualties have been reported yet. Many families were forced to leave their homes temporarily with the help of the fire service and the Italian Civil Protection. Some drivers tried to move their cars, but almost all were forced to give up their efforts.
According to the forecasts of the Hydrometeorological Service, extreme weather events may affect the Irpinia region until tomorrow evening.
